China's first independent intellectual property rights carbon ion therapy system approved for registration and listing

On October 10, the Chinese Academy of Sciences held a press conference in Beijing to introduce the approval, registration and listing of China's first carbon ion therapy system with independent intellectual property rights. Zhang Yaping, vice president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and member of the Party group, attended the press conference.

On September 29, the carbon ion therapy system developed by Institute of modern physics of Chinese Academy of Sciences and its holding company Lanzhou Kejin Taiji New Technology Co., Ltd. was approved for the registration of class III medical devices. It is the first domestic carbon ion therapy system approved and registered by the State Drug Administration in China.

Heavy ion beam has unique physical and biological characteristics, which is considered as an ideal radiation. Heavy ion therapy is known as an accurate, efficient and safe advanced radiotherapy method. Carbon ion therapy system is a large-scale medical device with advanced technology, including thousands (sets) of professional equipment, integrating accelerator, nuclear detection, medical diagnosis and treatment and other related technologies, providing carbon ion beam for the treatment of malignant solid tumors.

The Institute of modern physics has built several generations of large heavy ion accelerators and carried out heavy ion physics and related application research relying on heavy ion accelerators. It is a national strategic scientific and technological force of heavy ion science and technology in China. Since 1993, through the research and development of advanced accelerator technology and nuclear detection technology, basic biological research related to heavy ion beam therapy and pre clinical research accumulation in cooperation with relevant medical institutions, the Institute of modern physics has cultivated a high-level heavy ion therapy technical talent team and mastered relevant core technologies. Its research and development of carbon ion therapy system with independent intellectual property rights adopts the combination of cyclotron implantation and synchrotron acceleration, charge stripping implantation technology route, compact synchrotron, multi treatment mode, personalized treatment room layout and other unique design, which breaks through the patent barriers of foreign products, improves the cost performance and reduces the operation and maintenance costs, The breakthrough of domestic heavy ion therapy equipment has been realized.

Zhang Yaping pointed out in his speech that the domestic carbon ion therapy system has explored a way of independent innovation in the whole industry chain of "basic research → technology research and development → product demonstration → industrial application". The approval of medical device registration marks that China has its own brand of heavy ion therapy equipment, which makes a new step in the localization of high-end medical devices and equipment in China, and is of great significance for improving the means and level of tumor diagnosis and treatment in China. The domestic carbon ion therapy system is a typical example of the transformation and application of major scientific research achievements. Its industrialization and clinical application will drive the ion medical industry integrating cancer precision treatment, high-end equipment manufacturing and operation and maintenance services, meet the health needs of the people, cultivate new economic growth points, and promote the technical level of upstream and downstream enterprises, The transformation from low-end manufacturing to medium and high-end manufacturing will produce significant economic and social benefits, and make important contributions to promoting the construction of "healthy China", developing strategic emerging industries, and promoting regional economic development.

As the first project of the "Hongguang project", a key project of the transfer and transformation of scientific and technological achievements of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the R & D and industrialization of the carbon ion therapy system have been approved by the national development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of science and technology, the Ministry of ecological environment, the Ministry of industry and information technology, the National Health Commission, the State Drug Administration, the Ministry of science and technology of the people's Republic of China National Natural Science Foundation and other ministries and commissions, Gansu provincial Party committee and provincial government and other local Party committees and governments at all levels attach importance to and support.
